Our business is about people – not products
Hydraulics Online was founded to provide a personal, technical service tailored to each and every one of our customer’s needs – because there’s no such thing as a ‘one size fits all’ hydraulics solution, or anything customer-focussed in only supplying from a limited range of manufacturers and brands.
Our customers value our: teamwork, flexibility, knowledge, experience, independence and determination – and that all comes from people, not products.
Online doesn’t have to mean automated
That’s why, despite being an ‘online’ business, we do not allow customers to self-serve and simply ‘click and add to cart’ – it’s one of the values that has shaped our whole business.
Hydraulic solutions and product selection can get complicated. Really complicated. And everyone knows that a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing.
So we take that risk away: every enquiry is handled by a human – a member of our technical team. And that means our customers can tap directly into nearly 100 years of real ‘human’ knowledge and experience.
Customer service and relationships come first
For us that means: we’ll give you best advice. We’ll get things right first time so that (apart from routine maintenance) you can ‘fit and forget’ the hydraulic systems and equipment that we supply, leaving you free to drive your own business and projects forward with complete peace of mind.
Our growth and geographical reach mean that we rarely meet our customers face-to-face. As an online business that trades globally – with 130 countries to date – being able to build successful relationships with our customers is crucial. Our customers need a reason to come to us even when they have suppliers that are more local to them. We never lose sight of this.
Advice is only worth having if it’s independent and can be trusted
Our independence is highly prized by our customers and plays a key part in building trust and in mutual value creation.
With access to over 140 hydraulic manufacturers and distributors globally, we are completely independent. We are not tied to any single supplier or group of suppliers. We recommend what our customers need for their job, not what will help us meet targets imposed by suppliers (because we don’t have sales targets).
Always tell it straight
If it can’t be done, we’ll tell you. We won’t make promises we can’t keep or over-promise and then under deliver. That’s bad service. And short-sighted.
We want you to partner with us for the long term, and that might sometimes mean telling you something you don’t want to hear: that “it can’t be done” within your system, time or budget constraints. But then we’ll also tell you why, and let you know if there’s another way of achieving your goal… and you’ll know we’ve explored all the options.

If something is worth doing, it’s worth doing well
Don’t piggy-back off anyone else, don’t hang off anybody else’s coat tails. We’ve built our business the hard way without cutting corners; the right way. Our independence means we have no bias. We don’t pay for leads or ‘clicks’. And our ISO 9001:2015 accreditation has been secured through none other than The British Standards Institution to ensure we are really put through our paces.
Complacency and compromise suck. Be the best you can be
We’re always alert to opportunities to improve the way we do things and we invest in our own learning and self-development: for example participating in the Manchester Metropolitan University’s SMART Cheshire Innovation programme.
Pay it forward
We have provided financial support to a number of local and national charities and worthy causes over the years. We’ve even participated in charity runs and crossed the finishing lines of half-marathons.
Hydraulics Online has provided work experience placements to local schools and donated equipment and resources to support specific projects from time-to time. We have presented to Manchester Metropolitan University under-graduates and provided work-based learning placements for some of their Business Management degree students.
Locally, we work closely with UK Department of International Trade, both to leverage its support and to share our own experience with other businesses embarking on international growth.
