It’s true when we say it’s hard to think of an industry or market that we haven’t been involved in… On land, in the air or at sea!
After providing a Dowty equivalent pump to our customer, a supplier for marine hydraulics with an urgent order in the busy period before Christmas, we were delighted that our efforts were rewarded with a lovely thank you email!
All orders for ships become urgent in the run up to Christmas so once I knew you had the order packed and ready to go, I came over to collect them and pass them onto our freight forwarders who were tasked with getting the pumps out to Egypt.
We were in plenty of time and once collected from us I relaxed – ‘Job Done’! But I had not reckoned with the Christmas rush and we learned after Boxing Day that our consignment had been offloaded at Heathrow on Christmas Eve with a 3 day delay on the shipment. Normally consignments for ships are respected and fly as scheduled, however I gather it was the weight/shape of our pumps that caused the problem. Anyway, all’s well that ends well, and our pumps did make the vessel’s schedule.
Normally we only get involved with hydraulics when they are attached to our own equipment such as fin stabilisers, but this was an exception to the rule and as always try to say ‘Yes’ to our customers, coupled with the speed of your response, it was a winner all round.
We will consider whether there might be other opportunities for our mutual benefits.

Back to our customers. It’s hard to think of an industry, market or corner of the world where we haven’t supplied hydraulics and designed systems. Our work to date spans: Agricultural and forestry, energy and power generation, other hydraulic engineering “specialists”, manufacturing, industry and mining, marine and offshore, mobile hydraulics, original equipment manufacturers and other specialist applications e.g. ATEX
Hydraulics probably wouldn’t be your first thought if you were standing in a beautiful lavender field, but a new customer contacted the team looking for hydraulic systems design support to build a new piece of equipment – a ‘lavender lifter’ to de-head and harvest the flowers using bristle heads, much like a road sweeper, albeit much more gently! The team worked through the design and then quoted for a hydraulic motor with 50cc end ports, a 16mm flange and a 3/8″ BSP priority flow divider. It was dispatched the very next day.
Hydraulics are commonly found in marine and offshore equipment, and a well-established overseas hydraulic engineering company approached the team looking for a radial piston motor to replace an existing unit used on a marine winch system. The original motor was obsolete, but it also had a non-standard shaft.
Working from photos taken of the original unit, Hydraulics Online identified that an Italgroup (IAMD series) radial piston motor with a bespoke shaft was perfect for the job.

The customer in question was a worldwide marine engineering and underwater services provider, the email having been written by the Ship Superintendent of a vessel that was “struggling as one of her Linear Cable Engines has developed a serious problem and is now out of action.”

Staying close to home, a company who supply spare parts for the mining, construction, cement, oil and gas industries enquired about a direct equivalent to a Commercial Hydraulics P51 pump. So, one last example… a UK-based ship maintenance and supplies company enquired after a Commercial Hydraulics P365 Series pump. After quoting on the original Commercial Hydraulics P365 unit, we also offered to quote on the “direct equivalent” with its keener cost and lead time.

Hydraulics Online were contacted late on 17th June with a requirement for a number of Denison proportional amplifier cards; they were needed for one of our customer’s exploration rigs in Angola and, as is often the case, it was urgent… there was no time to spare.
The customer was quoted the following morning, the lead time being 8-10 weeks. The customer placed their order on 20th June, acknowledging that their target date for delivery (4th July) had been somewhat ambitious and would not be achieved. Or so it had it seemed.
Keen to improve on delivery if at all possible, the sales team approached a potential alternative supplier and successfully negotiated expedited delivery of the goods within the same week. Cue one happy customer who took delivery of their Denison proportional amplifier cards on 30th June… 4 days ahead of their original schedule!
Following on from my last email, I am thoroughly impressed with the service offered to us. The equipment supplied was exactly what we needed and it enabled us to return our own equipment to a working condition.
